the thing about charity

i know you are going to say "what liew... that was so last week...." when you begins to read next sentence… i read last sunday's strait time today... yes today.. this evening... come across this column by oh so famous sumiko tan... “the problem with charity”…she written “… a person who goes out of his way to help a stranger is undoubtedly charitable and should be praise… but what is this same person turns a blind eye to the needs of his immediate family and neighbors (and i do know people like that) would he still be considered charitable?” …. and “Is a person who donates $50 less charitable than one who give $500?...” well… why do charity?... i got my point of view… i always believe when a person do something.. and i mean anything… there is a reason…a motive… you eat… because you are hungry… you exercise… because you want a healthy body…you work hard…. because you want a raise… you work smart… because you are efficiently lazy… people do things for different reason… same goes for charity… i give because “i am born to be a charitable person”… “i want to help the world to be a kinder place” rubbish!... we do charity because it MAKE US FEELS GOOD! all drains down to the basic rule of living… to fulfill our needs! mother Teresa love the world… it makes her feel extreme pains when she sees sufferings… and by lending her heart out to help… it ease her pains too... she feels good!.. people saw that… and they followed her mission… and they felt good too… it brings life and hope into their heart.. so damn GOOD!.. and this is also the reason why i donate… it feels good when you know your effort helps to brings sufferings down a tiny weenie bit… but there is a problem… when the effect of charity no longer give you the drugged effect… you become what we always said “charity fatigue” well... unless you are like mother Teresa who was “forever addicted”… i must said it can’t be prevented... not until more images of sick suffering people flashes on the TV… like the recent asia tsunami diaster... mother Teresa was… you know… one of the exceptional case.
