IDA to open tender for Standard ICT Operating Environment (SOE).

for a start... the words "Standard ICT Operating Environment (SOE)" already sounded so confusing.... this $1.5b project announced by IDA comes as a strange surprise... in a whole, SOE means (i think lah...) a standard os, hardware, softwares, for all PC connecting to the gov networks, there common computer platform will be the standard for all gov agencies... but what puzzle me is what is their aim for doing this?? saving?? i mean almost all agencies today are using microsoft windows from microsoft, although different version (98..nt..2000..xp lah..) but all are from microsoft? what are they thinking about??? using open source platform like linux, redhat..??? i mean come on guys!! you have spent so much effort just to teach windows, using open system platform for gov service's users will be a nightmare!! as for software.. come on!! which end user wants to use something that is not graphical.. everyone’s knows simple point and click is the way to go! and in the end... its windows!...tell user to learn commands like in the old MS-DOS days??? i dun think so! well... as for hardware... whats more different will it gets???? its a PC! and it does not makes any different what brand is it...or wat type CPU it uses... at the end of the day it must perform what it is bought for! i really dun know what is this big IDA project its all about... a PC with a standard web browser is already a SOE!... anyway i am not complaining... thank 'god' for injecting more money into the IT sector ...yes we own a bit to them...in some way..somehow.. :P oh yah... its also we tax payer's money right?! >:(
